"The Hot Zone" by Richard Preston wa...
In this blog, i did what Mr. sutherland told us to do by putting in links for the readers to do some additional research if they are interested.
The Hot Zone opens with a vivid telling of Charles Monet's infection and how it eats away at his body. From the hideous condition of Charles Monet, with blood dripping from every orifice and the images of thick black liquid staining the walls of a hospital, the reader is disgusted, and yet appalled by the effects of the exotic virus. Charles Monet had apparently received the virus in the Kitum Cave, nestled in the African Mount Elgon. Perhaps the biosphere does not 'like' the idea of five billion humans. Preston believes that the horrible viruses are the earth's way of punishing the human race for taking over and for preventing their future expanse. The earth's immune system, so to speak, has recognized the presence of the human species and is starting to kick in. The earth is attempting to rid itself of an infection by the human parasite. The tone of the book becomes much more matter-of-fact, and much drier. For the most part The Hot Zone is a very interesting book. The organization could have been better. The last chapter of the book was also out of place. The rain forest has its own defenses. Or it could also be said that the extreme amplification of the human race, which has occurred only in the past hundred years or so, has suddenly produced a very large quantity of meat, which is sitting everywhere in the biosphere and may not be able to defend itself against a life form that might want to consume it.
The Ebola Sudan is more that twice as lethal as Marburg, its case-fatality rate being 50 percent. However, this terrifying story is the complete truth, an exhibition of nature's parasites, or predators, in its purest form. It is an undeniable tale of pure horror. Finally, was a test for Ebola Zaire, from the bloodstream of the deceased Nurse Mayinga. With the various twists and turns, Preston transforms the usual work of nonfiction into an unmistakable work of art. He had performed tests using the blood serum from three human victims.
Mr. Preston states in the first chapter page three, that has always had an interest in these diseases but never actually had first hand experience with touching them. I know it sounds lame but he is a writer. Can't be good at everything. (Laughing out loud). This guy really is the man though. If I could, I would meet this mr richard preston. He is a cool guy though. Believe me person who is reading this He's just a normal guy but as really seen some shit in his days. Mister Richard Preston was born August fifth, 1954 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. To the young parents. Mister and miss' Preston. For the majority of his life he lived in the small little town in Nebraska. He was about a mere young fifty when he wrote this book. Richard Preston graduated Wellesley High school in Massachusetts in 1972, He attended Pomona Colege, in Claremont, California, and received his Ph.D. in English from Princeton University. His 1992 New Yorker article "Crisis in the Hot Zone" was expanded into his best known book, The Hot Zone in ninteen ninety four. here is a link to the wikipedia site if you would like to look further into it. credited to allen lane and judith miller. So his original copy of this story was called some thing different and was latter developted in to his best selller. I can understand why it was a best seller. Preston's personal hobby of recreational big tree climbing is introduced in his book (2007) The Wild Trees.[1]. This climbing experience helped him write about the largest known redwoods like Lost Monarch, or Iluvatar, described in that book along with delicate forest canopy ecosystems.Even though that is a very long time ago, readers in america and in different countrys different countries. He came to know the virus through such contacts as U.S. Army researchers Drs. C.J. Petters and Nancy Jaax His fascination began during a visit to Africa where he was an eye witness to epidemics. Another book about viruses that he wrote was the novel The Cobra Event (1998), about the terroristic release of a fictional virus combining various qualities of different diseases upon New York City, alarmed even then-President Bill Clinton who, shortly after reading it, instigated a review of bio-terror threats to the U.S. The book strove to tell a fast-paced thriller narrative within the bounds of well-researched bio-terroristic possibility, and was reportedly pressed upon Clinton by a molecular biologist when he was attending a Renaissance Weekend event.[2] the other one that Mr. Preston wrote was The Demon Freezer(2002) covers the story of the eradication of Smallpox, perhaps the most destructive virus to have plagued mankind. It details the survival of the virus in research labs and bio-weapon programs of Russia and other nations, despite its eradication in the human population. The narrative continues with Anthrax, a bacterial disease of cattle and humans, used in a failed attack against former Senator Tom Daschle of South Dakota.
All in all this book was pretty damn epic. andre and ryan, i give some big ass props for picking this book. good shit brothas. How did you guys like it anyways. we havent discussed how we were feeling about the book in a whole, since we finished.

I love this book you guys! it is so l...
i am really happy that we chose this book. i am not really sure that you guys feel entirely the same way as i do, refering to your recent literary circle letter, but when i think back on our discussions that we have had, i can recall that you guys felt the same way. i feel this way because i am more sanitary. i know, or a least believe that a disease will be noticed like pretty soon after it gets here. not like in the book where it seriously took way too long till it's initial arrival in the states. that was just rediculous, huh guys?
how do you guys feel about that whole.... section about its attempt for spreading. that was honestly SO well written that i was feeling some what scared!! like almost nervous for my own well being. did you guys feel the same way? like Preston pulled you into the book or something similar to that? i was blown away by this guy.
hey richard preston (by the way, i memorized his name, laughing out loud), good shat on this book that you have written. i am stunned.
on the upcoming ones, could you guys be more straight foward? thanks partners!

The Holocaust was the mass murder of ...
The world that people lived in during the Holocaust is described by the personal experiences of the oppressed throughout the the many heart-wrenching and terrifying novels that have been published throught the time of the end of the holocaust till now. and i imagine that there are more to come. The vicious and relentless emotional, physical, and psychological abuse the Nazi`s targeted at their victims is depicted in detail. The unspeakable cruelty received by the Jews dramatically altered their state of mind and how they lived their lives. The emotions of despair, distress, depression, hopelessness, helplessness felt by the Jews eventually turn to hate, anger, hopefulness, faith, and ultimately revenge against all oppressors. The Holocaust was a traumatic and tragic time in history to say the least. Those who were victims of the mistreatment were forced to respond.
Propaganda played a huge role and affected many people’s thinking during this time period. The propaganda was designed to influence the targeted people’s opinions, beliefs, and emotions. Joseph Paul Goebbel’s was the German national socialist propagandist. He had complete control over radio, press, cinema, and theater. What the propagandist preached may have been either true or false. They did whatever it took to sway the people to believe their ideas. They wanted people to think that their way was right.
The Nazi’s were known for using terms that had literal and actual meaning in their propagandized language. Their thoughts were hammered into people’s brains so they soon became unconsciously thinking the way the Nazi’s did. The propagandist had rules like our 10 Commandments. The first three were to divide and conquer, tell the people what they want, and the bigger the lie, the more people will believe it. this honest to god hurts my soul.
After doing this cultural week. my eyes were opened. i am amazed at the troubles and hardships and just pure brutality... i feel all there pain just in my heart right now. their stories, weigh on my heart. i love them as i would family. after the speech and story telling by Hellen, i went up there and shook her hand. btw, thank you Hellen..

Richard Preston’s The Hot Zone is an ...
Richard Preston’s The Hot Zone is an excellent nonfiction account of a deadly virus from the central rain forests of Africa that suddenly appears in the suburbs of Washington DC. The Virus is highly contagious and has no cure. This book describes many frightening encounters with this virus and the effects it has on the human body, getting more and more graphic as the book continues. It also attempts to explain where and why the viruses originated. From reading The Hot Zone one can interpret two main themes, the first of which involves the idea that the Ebola virus could spread very rapidly if airborne. In today’s society, with the worldwide use of airplanes, an airborne virus could travel from country to another in a matter of hours. Many of the outbreaks occurred as a result of infected people traveling to other areas and infecting people there. With the use of airplanes a virus such as an airborne strand of Ebola could destroy the world. Another major theme in this book is Preston’s idea that disease is nature’s defense.

I really like this idea of blogging b...
For me, this is going to work in my liking because i can blog and keep a "log' of how my football games go and my stats and opinions about it the way it went. this blog could be a really cool way to inform my sister about each one of my games and what i was able to accomplish week by week. i actually have not seen her for close to a year because she is in the air force living in Portugal. she has her own family all the way in Portugal so she cant come home and see us. i know she is doing it for our country, but it is hard to go through high school because she has always been there for me and has always been a big supporter in my sports. this blog is almost entirely for football on Friday nights under the lights. When I'm an adult, i want to be able to go back and look at all these documents and reminisce about the early years of my life. i can also show these to my kids if they do not believe me when i tell them that i was a pretty good athlete. my dad showed me his old pictures and writings that were about his life when i brought this assignment to his attention. i never believed that my dad was not just an athlete but that he was really good at what he did. i am very supprised that he was really good at baseball. he was a monster!
i have not followed my goals. i do not think i really want to either. my goals were to write about football and keep my stats so i can go back and reminisce. i like this idea but this is really way to hard because the blog is do fridays and my games are on fridays. this caused a huge problem because i would come home extremely exausted and not be able to build up enough energy to stay awake while i type the blog
i ended up just writing to get by. like i have started to just ramble about stuff i dont like just to get the credit. most of the time i would do what you told us not to, by repeating myself. so my work would come out no where close to my best works.
my new goals. i feel that i should change my goals because, like i said i have not been able to follow through with my old plans. after two days of planning on what they should be, i did not come up with much. the first thing i thought was to write about weight lifting but i do not really feel that that would be using this blog for something usefull. because it would be very repetative.

Pick a character that interested you ...
Monthly book review!!! yay..
The book that i am reading is a walk to remember. even though the book i had to read for lit circle group was "Nickled and Dimed", i read a walk you remember and i loved it with all my heart! it is my favorite book ever now. i highly recomend the book. not the movie. the movie just ruins this book. and if you have seen the movie or if you have read the book. just clear your mind of all the information of this story that you hold prior to this review. and just imagine all i say. this is the best way to read a review.
8. Pick a character that interested you and write about them in depth.
i picked the character named Landon, Landon Carter. A nice guy from North Carolina that has some good, and some bad moments. He could possibly be one of the most changed characters that i have read about in any book in man kind. (bold statement!)
In the beginning of the book Landon was, how you say, insecure. he was not really popular and the only popularity that he had was obtained by hanging out with John. john, who was the star quarter back, was a very big influence on Landon. even though at most times it was a bad influence Landon could help but be his best friend. the bad influence directly caused Landon to be the way he was. no other person except maybe his father, caused him to be the way he was. the other person that could have efected him in the way he was was possibly his dad. but the difference between John's influence and his father's influence was that Landon did not, under no circumstances, wanted to be like his dad. its sad but he has pretty good reason. it because his dad has really never accepted him or the things that he wanted him to be. it is basically because his dad planned out his life before Landon was even alive. this caused many problems in Landon's life because he never really knew what to do once his dad
"set him free". then he started to mess up...
in the begining of the book he was kind of lost. he was looking for his spot in his school/ world. but of course, this was before he knew jaime. he was also kind of mean and stuck up before he incountered her. but she changed that. Imensely! but that is a different story. ill touch on it in a little. Landon never really fit in but had a cool ass freind and he knew this. this bothered him because it made him feel that he was not really his ownn person or never really earned the respect that he had from his peers. he also did not feel that his life was earned in any other way. even including the money that his grand father obtained. he felt this in his heart because his grand dad did not ever work for his "earnings" really. all he did to get his money was lend money to the workers and the land owners that needed money to keep there work going during the great depression. and he would charge out ragoious interest charges so that they would end up going broke and owe him a lot of money on top of the money that they paid him in intrest. he was just a straight up snake and Landon knew it. he hated this. Landon honestly did not one time work to get anything by himself. this bothered him. this kind of made him a jerk because he was so mad about not having a place in his own life.
Then he met Jaime. Jaime was not really that much of a " cool" or "popular" girl in any way. She was not anything special so to speak but she would end up being special. Landon did not even feel that she was pretty or special or even cool in a some what kind of way. Jaime and Landon went to school together for so many years, twelve long years to be exact. he actually even did not even like her. to be blunt. lol. but he had enough common sense and respect top be nice to her though. he had a soft spot for her because it was so many years that she was kind of like a certain type of family. except distant and very annoying to him! some branch of family, right? but this year would definately change it.
Jaime was such a wonderful person that some people even hated her for it because watching her around people mad you feel like a bad person because she was just so wonderfully nice. it was amazing to think that but i guess that it is plausable. ridiculous idea but it truly did happen. it makes me feel really, really bad. She was the pastor/ reverands daughter and was the perfect little teenager. basically no flaws. crazy right? Landon on the other hand, you basically know. he was opposite. well to say it as nice as possible. but saying the opposite of Jaime really could not be nice. it cant even mean anything nice. well referring to anything nice. who would expect what was going to come next. i am not going to ruin the book and tell you how he changes, or how he and Jaime end. Just read.
it is a cliche ass love story. good sweet and pretty girl, falls for the "bad boy". but it is not that. in short terms, this book will just play every heart in and make it just fall for this cute couple. i loved this book. and i honest to god, with all my heart and soul, do not watch the movie. READ the book. arguably the best read in the world and possibly one of Nicholas Sparks' best book. It is just amazing!!!

With education, you can make your lif...
With education, you can make your life much easier and it won't be a pain to get a good paying job when you get out of school into the real world. The people that she works with in the book are the example of people that did not think of the future leading them into not applying themselves to there school. I am sure they would love to go back in time and does their homework, get good grades, and then go to college and not have dropped out of high school.
What is your guy’s favorite part of the book so far? i am not really feeling this book even though it is an easy reader. like the topics are understandable but not interesting. that type of easy reader. I really like how she explains how the people she works with have a bunch of other jobs other then the one they are at with her. meaning that they are not even getting paid enough with just one minimum wage job, so they need another. this gives me an example of how not to do things in my life. i really do feel bad for these people but at the same time i am putting all my will power into not leading type of life. this is still going on around the country and even more so around the world. This really just brings out her point about the minimum wage not being enough to earn a living. her point should really help us as young adults to strive for better things so we do not end up like them. i feel bad for saying it even though it is not mean. i am not trying to knock these people's life style. i just dont want it. you guys get what i am saying. lets discuss this further in class like we did last time. LOVE TONE!!
